A Question on ... Rheometer Temperature Calibration

ASTM International Committee E37 is developing Standard Test Methods for calibration of rheometry apparatus. I am writing to request any thoughts that you might have on temperature calibration. That is, how do rheometry user calibrate or verify the temperature signal of their apparatus?

In thermal analysis, we are use to verifying temperature calibration by the running of a material with a known transition temperature. This approach appears to be foreign to practitioners of rheometry. This is probably because there is a scarcity of well-recognized, narrow temperature range transitions. But perhaps one of you has a suggestion to make to our E37 activities.

Best regards,

Roger Blaine
